Well today's plan was a complete fail. I was meant to do a bunch of things for my final move from Melbourne back home to Bali: had bills to organize, documents to go through, things to pack, and a MESSY-ASS apartment to clean. Ended up giving into my compulsive self - and decided to pick up the brush. Made several works through out the day, but i feel only these two are finished pieces.

FINAL SEMESTER - UNI WORK

i paint stuff, i cut things, i layer, i paste it on the stuff i painted.

It's my final semester of uni and these are images of the wall in my studio space which i painted 'red' or to be more precise scarlet heart (*giggle*). It took me about 40 minutes to decide on a single colour that would go with my little collages and fabrics. But I'm more than satisfied with my choice of colour.

(okay i lie, playing cool : I'm understating the level of excitement I felt when I saw how fabulously red my freshly painted wall looked. I think i peed my pants a little.)

no, i'm not being dramatic, choosing colour is a BIG DEAL boo!

I think It works well with my little cutout images and materials.

These are just pictures of the early stages of my work in my final semester. I will post and update the highly anticipated finale!!!!! (well... highly anticipated for me anyway. gah, so excited to be done with UNI.)

SPEAKING OF NON-PLACES

HELLO fellow earthlings! So i haven't updated this blog in a while now, but that's only because i have been so busy with UNI and been playing favorites with strawberripowder and my middle-child tellmewhathappened. but i've now linked my admins all together with the motherblog :) so i can manage things better from here on out. I will be posting more of my art works and projects on here from now on (or at least try harder to be less of a lazy ass).

I might also adjust and tweek this blog

in hopes to intensify the level of MASS AWESOMENESS! which is currently non-existent.

(and depending on your definition of awesomeness, i don't know if i can guarantee this. haha)

but yes, it might take time for this blog to reach a height. I'm still trying to figure out how i want to present and portray my current and ongoing works. I plan to write a little more as well - to explain a little bit more about my work process and the resolved. This also may start off a bit wobbly since i articulate my thoughts better through visual imagery rather than text.WORDS ARE FUCKING INTIMIDATING (pardon my freeeenchhh).

how to make a good smoothie:
PREPARE

1 cup fresh sliced strawberries (preferably right out of the freezer)

1/2 cup milk

1.5 cups of vanilla yogurt

Optionally, you can add 1 tablespoon of water to lessen its thick texture

Pour all ingredients into blender.

Place Lid tightly on. (make sure its properly shut).

in Photography

My new project will be on photography.
Through many small Polaroid size black and white photographs, memories are represented. through these images, memories are embodied. The photographs will be assembled together on a big black wooden board resembling a notice board. the many photographs together will create insignificance to each individual photographs (when seeing the piece as a whole). The many images will seem insignificant and unimportant. Each and every individual photograph will be directed and shot with a purpose to gain its significance when the audience views it as an individual photo. some photographs will have a slight hint of colour in comparison to the rest of the black and white (which personifies the feeling of authenticity and vintage tone). this is to represent that some memories are much sharper than others due to certain reasons and circumstances of the event. the purpose of this piece is also to show the significance of our psychological existence.

This is one of my earlier pieces during the course of the I.B. Here, I tried to establish a connection between our internal and external values and how they depend on one another. external physical and internal meaning psychological. I tried to communicate our inability to express emotions and how that may interfere with our physical existence.

"Enter The Circus"

This is the last (unfinished) piece from the series of gender roles. This piece communicates the drastic inequality of male and women. This piece focuses mainly on the role of the female in attempt to balance out the inequality of the gender role where males are often the dominant gender.

Here i wanted to convey the exploitation of women in the media and how women are often used as show case. for example, the use of women in Music Videos and Movies to promote sex. Seeing women as a sex tool/object.

The drastic and strong colours in this piece communicate the corruption of this system and how now even some women aspire to be viewed as such things. That being viewed this certain way (as a sexual object) is a positive thing.

"Thin Line"

This here is the second piece following "Surface" which deals mainly with the portrayed roles of males and females within society. i tried to express a mutual tone and a neutral environment where the contact of male and female are separate yet it is evident in my art work that the male figure is more dominant in comparison to the female. The female figure appears soft and elegant which is symbolic to the expected role of women accordance to the view of society.

The model is a very close 'friend' of mine. I find that while doing my art pieces, using loved ones and people who i feel very close with such as friends or family members, i am more passionate about my art and i find that this way my art really holds meaning. I find that when i use models from magazines or random people, my art becomes shallow and lacks depth and i dont feel as strongly about it. by depicting my loved ones, i can relate and approach my works with more passion during the process. <3

Surface

this is one of 3 paintings of a series. the pieces plays along the subject of gender roles. Through this art piece i attempted to express equality within the roles of men and women and express love. i tried to capture the idealistic relationship between men and women through the cool-flowing colours and the smooth and calm tone of the piece.
the images of paths and roads and deep water is symbolic for the deeper and undefined obstacles within the portrayed perfection of gender equalities. the paths and roads mean to show that there is more than what meets the surface.

(This is an unfinished art piece)
this is a piece i did titled "wonderland". it did this as a visual reflection of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. i really loved the text and how it could capture our minds so well, in a structure where senseless thought actually makes sense. I did this piece, with an attempt to express the creativity in which we posses in out psychological existence. and how it is often neglected. .

The style in this work is heavily influenced by that of 19th century symbolist painter Gustav Klimt.

IB ART. why?

IB art.
i come from two distinct backgrounds. one of a western culture and one of Asian. Canadian and Balinese/Indonesian to be more specific. My mother is Javanese and my father is Canadian. since i was younger i have been highly exposed to art and grew up in the very artistic environment of Bali. i always took interest in art whether it was performing or visual. from singing, to acting, to dancing and from drawing to painting to photography. i have always been sure about my place in the art area. if any, art is the one thing in my life i am actually sure of. in the sense that i know it's something i am passionate about and doing art sometimes is easier for me to do than breathing!! art is my way of expressing myself mentally and emotionally. it is my way of escaping and my way of understanding not only myself but also the world around me. Art has become my therapy.

i chose the i.b because through the i.b course i am able to explore and interpret the world through an artistic context & point of view. which i love.
Through my art, you will find that i am fantasy prone! A large quantity of my work you will find elements of fantasy. fantasy is a reoccurring theme throughout my art pieces. you'll see evidence of fairy tails and to some it all up, my psychological existence. (which is just a fancy way of saying - how i live in my head).
